Principal’s Message

I am very excited about learning and working with the Blythwood students, staff and parents in the upcoming years. I look forward to sharing my experiences as an educator with a background of experience in gifted education, creative arts programming, numeracy and innovative ways to promoting modern approaches to 21st century education.

I grew up in a close-knit community of 6,000 people in central Alberta and graduated from the university of Calgary. I learned a great deal about commitment, perseverance and team work from my five years as a member of the U of C Dinosaurs basketball team. My passion for the arts, creativity

and innovation began growing up with highly creative people who taught me to take risks with my own learning and creative process.

I began my teaching career with a class of 30 grade one students who still remind me today of how joyful we are at that young age about school and how important it is to keep that passion for learning alive for our students throughout the years. I thoroughly loved working with primary grade students for six years and then moved on to teaching grade 4/5/6 gifted education as well as grade 6 to 8 creative arts teaching assignments in both Calgary and at Faywood ABC school in Toronto. These phenomenal experiences led me to move to Toronto to complete my Masters degree in holistic and Aesthetic education in Curriculum at the Ontario Institute for studies in Education.

My administrative experience includes working as Vice-principal at Dublin Heights E. & M. S., C. H. Best Middle school and Principal at both Wilmington E. S. and Flemington P. S. My leadership history includes extensive work as Co-Chair of our family of schools’ numeracy committee. We explored innovative modes of teaching and learning numeracy methodology, incorporating technology and the collaborative inquiry process approach to professional development. In addition, I was co-lead principal of the TDSB partnership with TakingITGlobal for three years. I helped to connect my school and schools within our Family of schools with student voice, global environmental projects and education for social innovation projects promoting modern 21st century teaching and learning.

I look forward to learning and leading alongside the Blythwood students, staff and community to support innovative approaches to continuing the excellent work already taking place.
