Welcome Blythwood families to the 2021-2022 School Year!!

September 2021

Welcome

On behalf of the parent council, we want to welcome returning and new families to Blythwood this school year. Many of us are looking forward to having our children back at school together with their friends, teachers and classmates.

It continues to be a challenging time with COVID-19 and the ongoing concern for the safety of our families and communities. Although there are uncertainties around how the year will unfold, we are confident that our Principal, Hilary Farrell, and Board Trustee, Rachel Chernos-Lin, will continue to ensure that the health and safety of students and teachers remains the top priority. Please make sure to read Hilary’s regular email communication with parents for the latest updates.

Blythwood has an excellent reputation for academics, athletics, the arts and community involvement. We’ve heard from parents about how important culture is to Blythwood and the school community. The parent council will continue to work closely with staff and parents to make sure this year is a fun and positive one for our children. Stay tuned for more details!

Parent School Council (PSC)

Our parent council is an active and key part of the school community. We work on behalf of all parents to represent the needs and matters that are important to us all. Our purpose is to support and enrich the academic, athletic, arts and social activities of the school in a way that’s inclusive of all our families.

The main functions of school council include:

Establishing the broad direction and needs of the school within the school’s community
Raising funds for school related purposes
Providing programs and events for students and families to participate and engage in
Giving back to the community
We care deeply about Blythwood and encourage parents to attend the school general meetings, provide feedback, and participate through the many volunteer opportunities. Like many schools we need your involvement to make the school a success. Volunteering is a great way to get involved, meet new people, and support our children and the school.

Parent School Association (PSA)

Our parent association is our charitable organization. Registered for tax purposes, its fundraising efforts have provided the school with curriculum support and tools that help to make Blythwood such a wonderful place to learn. Considering the virtual environment, we found ourselves in last year, our Fundraising committee has had to rethink how we continue to raise funds that benefit the school and our families.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information about our activities, or if you would like to become involved. We also encourage you to visit our PSC/A website frequently for the most up-to-date information regarding the many activities and programs that are running at our school.

Sincerely,

Christina Caney                                 Kristy Luciani
